Hand and a Half Training Sword

This is a modern reproduction of the famous sword used by the roman armies and gladiators. Made with black Santoprene, this sword is a great training tool to maintain safety but give you the same size and weight as a original roman gladius.This training sword is inspired by the shape and dimensions of the bastard swords used in the XIV and XV. It is an evolution of the arming sword with a longer handle and a pear-shaped pommel for a better grip which then allows it to be wielded with two hands. 

The term “bastard” can be explained by this use halfway between the one handed  and two handed sword.

Another explanation would be that this sword was called the "bastard" because, to be wielded with two hands, the knight had to drop his shield and therefore its coat of arms.

It is easy to clean and is so resistant to impact stresses and the elements, that it is virtually unbreakable and practically indestructible.
