Description

The Feder, or Federschwert ("feather sword"), is the training sword dedicated to the longsword, used in European fencing schools from the 15th century onward. The Meyer 1570 Federschwert draws directly on the treatise published by Joachim Meyer in Strasbourg in 1570, one of the major sources of Germanic longsword fencing. Its medium-flex steel blade withstands blade work and committed sparring in full protective gear. The widened schilt protects the hands in the bind and makes half-swording possible, while the point of balance close to the guard gives lively handling. Plain and robust, this simulator is a dependable base for learning the fundamentals as well as for regular club training.

NB: as with any feder, the tip should be secured with a rubber blunt or a piece of leather during thrusting in sparring.
