"Red Dragon" Bastard Sword

The bastard sword, also known as the hand-and-a-half sword, was a versatile weapon widely used in the late Middle Ages. This model from the "Red Dragon Combat" range is specifically inspired by 13th-century designs, a pivotal period in the evolution of medieval weaponry.

Design and Materials:

The blade, forged from high carbon EN42J spring steel, is designed to replicate the performance of historical swords. With a core hardness of approximately 45 HRC and an edge hardness of about 50 HRC, it offers an excellent balance between strength and flexibility. The wide 5 cm blade is particularly effective for slashing blows while maintaining good thrusting capability.

The guard and pommel, forged in steel, are true to the styles of the era. The wooden handle is wrapped in leather cord, offering both aesthetics and a comfortable grip. The sword comes with a wooden scabbard covered in leather in an authentic style.

Although primarily designed as a collector's piece, this sword can be used for technical training in HEMA (without sparring). Its blunt 1 mm thick edge allows for cutting exercises on appropriate targets. For use in HEMA or stage combat, it is recommended to further round the tip for added safety.
