Description
This training sword, or federschwert, is a meticulous reproduction of the weapons used by 15th-century fencing masters, including the famous Johannes Liechtenauer. Inspired by the illustrations from the Codex Danzig of 1452, it combines historical accuracy with modern adaptations for the safe practice of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).
The 60C2A steel blade, with a hardness of 47-50 HRC, offers the characteristic flexibility of historical federschwerts. Its widened ricasso (68 mm) faithfully reproduces the details observed in manuscripts, likely designed to reinforce the strong part of the blade during parries. The rolled tip ensures increased safety during thrusting exercises.
With a total length of 135 cm and a weight of 1610 g, this sword perfectly matches the dimensions of archaeological federschwerts dating from the 15th to the 17th century. Its point of balance at 6 cm from the guard offers exceptional maneuverability, ideal for executing the techniques described in the treatises of the Lichtenauer tradition.
The handle, covered in leather, ensures a comfortable and authentic grip. The straight guard, typical of the period, completes the historical aesthetic of the weapon.
Whether you are an experienced practitioner or a martial history enthusiast, this federschwert will allow you to deeply explore the long sword combat techniques of the 15th century, as taught by the masters of the German tradition.
